Welcome

The current installment of the COEC began meeting in 2007.

We are currently on a "break," for no particular reason, and many little reasons - mostly pertaining to life circumstances. If anyone is interested in calling a meeting, feel free to post on the blog, join the google group (see link below) and send an email, or contact either Nancy (nancykj10@yahoo.com) or Jesse (schroeder.jesse@gmail.com) for more information.

Scripture In Community

This Sunday we will meet at Zach and Eve's home at 1270 Courtland in downtown Columbus. As a continuation of the study of the book, "Free for All" by Tim Conder we will be discussing Chapter 5, The Word in the Obscure (Genesis 34).

Despite (and maybe because of) the enormous challenge of this ancient story, I volunteered to lead this time. See you Sunday!

Nancy

I'm excited for this!! The "Free for All" book has been really good, and I'm enjoying our discussion. Also, I'll try to bring some refreshments to loosen up the discussion - some wine and/or beer. Thanks to Zack and Eve for hosting!

How did the discussion go? I haven't received my copy of "Free for All" yet, but it is on its way! Did you settle on the event for next Sunday? (There was some discussion of switching the schedule)

It was a really good discussion Kyle - we talked around a lot of the "macro narratives" of Scripture - ideas like "obey God, and good will come to you. disobey, and you will suffer" and discussed how these foundational truths that were somehow ingrained in all of us through years of going to church, don't actually work out when you read stories like the rape of dinah. I think we experienced the tensions and challenges of the story, and of Scripture as a whole, and we had some "wrestling with God" moments - it was challenging, but good.

This Sunday we are doing the Operation Christmas Child meeting - I posted some information. This could be a great week to bring other members of your family! It would be fun to pack a shoe box with your kids - and we'd love to meet them!
