Welcome

The current installment of the COEC began meeting in 2007.

We are currently on a "break," for no particular reason, and many little reasons - mostly pertaining to life circumstances. If anyone is interested in calling a meeting, feel free to post on the blog, join the google group (see link below) and send an email, or contact either Nancy (nancykj10@yahoo.com) or Jesse (schroeder.jesse@gmail.com) for more information.

This Weekend

Lots going on this weekend! Here are some of the events we are going to check out:

Scary movie at the Ohio Theater.  ("House on Haunted Hill") Starts at 8pm. $5. Jesse & Kellye are going to this, and anyone is welcome to meet up with us (call/text 557-5768)

Highball Halloween" party in the Short North. Also $5, starts at 3pm but goes for most of the night. Lots of fun events and costume contests. Nick and a few others will probably drop by this event, and anyone could meet up with them.

Finally, we will be having a low-key time of prayer, communion and worship at Jesse & Kellye's house in Grove City at 3pm on Sunday Oct. 31st. Everyone is welcome. It will probably go about an hour. No food before or after.

Doug is coming this weekend!

In case you forgot, Doug Pagitt is coming to Columbus on Sunday, July 19th. You can see more information here, and I've embedded a video below that has a little preview. I'm really excited for this event and I hope you and all your family and friends will be able to make it.

The COEC Welcomes Doug Pagitt!!

Please mark you calendars for another special event this summer - Sunday July 19th we are hosting Doug Pagitt, author, speaker, pastor, seminal leader in emergent village, and future politician? Doug will be sharing his "Christianity Worth Believing" Live Occurrence (see more info here) - Also, see the facebook event page here.

The event will be from 3-5pm and will be hosted by Jacob's Porch, located at 45 E. 13th Ave. There is limited parking behind the building, free meter parking on 13th Ave, and inexpensive parking at the nearby Gateway Parking garage.

I have read several of Doug's books, and they are available from the Cols. library and at local book stores (I would highly recommend both "A Christianity Worth Believing" and "Church Re-imagined"). I'll be putting up some posts soon on the COEC blog with selections for reading and discussion.

I'm confident this will be another great author/speaker event for Columbus!!

Upcoming Events

Obviously, Peter Rollins will be in town this weekend - so if you happen to just be dropping by the blog, please join us on Sunday!

But a few other events have come up as well that we'd like to invite everyone to:
  1. Trinity Lutheran Seminary's Winter Ministry Institute, February 19-20, which will be discussing "Change Happens! Emergent Church for an Emerging Future - Faith Communities in the Post Modern Era" and feature emergent leaders from Jacob's Porch in Columbus, Karen Ward from Seattle, as well as leaders from Pittsburgh and Ft. Wayne, Indiana. The cool thing is, it's right here in town!!
  2. Phyllis Tickle will be in Cincinnati, March 7-8, at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, discussing what it means to be a Christian in the 21st century.
  3. **Just added** - Columbus Huddle - hosted by Jacob's Porch (I think) - Aug. 11-14
So mark your calendar (and notice that COEC calendar has these dates marked as well), and let us know if you would like to attend. I'm sure carpooling and other plans will be made closer to the event dates.
